Avanquest’s Encyclopedia Britannica Ultimate Reference Suite 2006 DVD offers an impressive amount of content—100,000 individual articles, according to the box. However, finding the exact information you want may not prove easy. The program includes a basic search field as well as the ability to browse by letter, subject, and media type. The advanced search gives you just three options with which to narrow down your keyword search: you can choose whether the article should include any of the words, all of the words, or the exact phrase.

The program’s interface is also puzzling: It opens each article in its own tab (much like Safari and Firefox’s tabbed browsing). However, Britannica splits articles by education level, so you might have different entries on the same subject for General, Student Library, and Elementary Library. Each of these levels gets its own tab at the top of the interface, while underneath is an additional set of tabs that contain all the actual articles regardless of the educational level you select. This makes the interface very cluttered and confusing. Plus, if you want to take notes while researching in Britannica, you have to copy and paste to another application.

Britannica contains tens of thousands of individual articles.

The one new feature in Britannica 2006 is the homework help desk. However, this appears to be little more than a collection of instructional articles on writing papers and links to content accessible elsewhere in the interface.

Britannica does have two standout features, though: the BrainStormer and Timeline. BrainStormer allows you to view an article topic in a flowchart style, making it easy to see connections between related subjects. Both World Book and Britannica include timelines (useful for getting historical overviews), but while Britannica links its timeline items to articles, World Book, inexplicably, does not.

名师出高徒新论

是不是名师出高徒？一个伟大人物是得益于老师还是得益于自己？显然两者都重要，但是
为什么有时候学生无法超越老师，有时候却青出于蓝胜于蓝？ Barrow的成就远远不及New
ton，但是因为主动让出教席，拔擢Newton，而名扬千古。David说他一生中最大的发现就
是Faraday，但是由于曾经出于妒忌而打压过Faraday，终究无法洗除人品的瑕疵。Einste
in听说当年的老师Weber挂了以后，兴奋地说：“Weber的死对苏黎士工业大学是一件好事
。”恩恩怨怨且不说，这些师生的特点就是学生胜过老师。都因为学生而使老师留名。Ba
rrow留下美名，后人则对David毁誉参半，而Weber就倒霉在得罪了Eintein，遗臭万年了。

而另一方面，不是每个大师都有好学生。显然，Einstein和Dirac都没有出名的学生，这是
不是他们的失败？不是。因为他们都厌恶教学，喜欢独自思考，虽然也乐于解答别人提出
的问题，但是没有当老师的热情。Feynman被认为是教学的高手，他的三卷本讲义影响深远
，但是他也出名的学生，据说 Feynman晚年对这个问题耿耿于怀，觉得自己没有成为好老
师。他认为是自己太急于解决学生提出的问题而没有给学生充分思考的机会等于是抑制了
学生解决问题的能力。他在加州理工学院任教三十多年，却没有人继承他的衣钵，可以想
象他内心的遗憾。但是正如卢昌海博士提醒我时所说的，他的三卷本物理讲义足以让他成
为世界顶级的好老师了。

（抓狂一下，前些天发现了上海科技出版社重新出版的Feynman物理讲义，每本都是八十左
右，我自己是不需要中文版了，但是这不是让那些需要的穷学生无法买动吗？真是一群土
匪啊！！！！愤慨一下，这是拿着伟大的Feynman当摇钱树啊，比那些唯钱是图的教育部有
得一拼了。）

不同的数学和物理学大师有不同的教学和研究习惯。因此也就有了不同的学生。Gauss有那
么多好学生，以致于很难相信他对人是那么严格。 Riemann却没有什么学生，他自己是Ga
uss晚年最得意的高足。Gauss很少称赞别人，但是Riemann关于Riemann曲面的博士论文赢
得了他罕见的热情赞颂，Riemann关于几何学基础的演讲，据说他是唯一听得懂的人。而且
在演讲结束后还和Weber（和Einstein痛恨的那个 Weber不是一个人，我对外国人的姓是没
语言的说。）说几何学的伟大革命出现了。Dirichlet或许也算是Riemann的半个老师了，
他同时又是 Gauss的半个学生，这一八卦，辈分就有点乱了。但无论如何，这三位都是伟
大人物，

这里，名师和高徒交相辉映，个个牛叉。顺便再八卦，Dedkind也是Gauss晚年的学生，而
且是最后一个学生。Weierstrass成名前在中学里什么都教，连体育都教。成名后可谓桃李
满天下。Schwarz或许是他的正宗继承人，他的很多作品没有发表，是在他死后由Schwarz
整理出版的。Schwarz虽然也算厉害了，却没有听说哪个大师是他的学生。那个被美国人八
卦成抢Nobel情人的Mittag Leffler也是Weierstrass的学生，其实Mittag-Leffler和Nobe
l不和是真的，但是抢他情人就是子虚乌有之事了。复变函数论中有一个定理叫Mittag-Le
ffler定理，在多复变函数论中，Mittag Leffler的推广是Cousin第一问题，Weierstrass
的推广是Cousin第二问题。看来，师徒都不赖。

Poincare的数学才能惊世骇俗，但是他身后没有象样的学生，虽然他在大学里可以一年教
一门新课程，虽然他著作等身。他是一个伟大的数学家却不是一个伟大的教育家。他是一
个极其优秀的学生，他的导师是著名的函数论专家Hermite，Hermite不喜欢Poincare在细
节问题上的不经意，但是他私下说自己最喜欢的学生就是Poincare。

Hilbert是一个慢热之人，对于许多数学问题的反应都很迟钝，但是这也成为他的优势，他
就是那样从最简单的研究起，成为一个与Poincare 齐名的数学大师。他没有Poincare那样
敏捷的才思，却有一点超过Poincare很多，那就是他的学生中有很多出色人物，最著名的
当然是Weyl， Weyl在18岁时从乡下来到当时的Gottingen，在这个数学的麦加圣地，懵懂
的Weyl听了一次Hilbert关于代数数论的课，整个暑假他都为了弄懂Hilbert所讲的东西而
努力，后来他在数论上做出大成就是与导师的影响和言传身教无法分开的，在悼念Hilber
t的文章中，Weyl以极其优美的笔触深情回忆自己的导师，说Hilbert想一个穿花衣服的吹
笛手将一只只老鼠引诱进数学的深河。Weyl是其中最著名的一只老鼠。

再来对物理学家进行八卦，先谈Fermi。Fermi自己是Nobel物理学奖获得者，他有至少5个
学生也获该奖，其中Segre是Fermi指导下在Rome大学获得学位的，Yang和Lee是Chicago大
学跟随他的。这个名师有时候会和他的高徒开玩笑。有一次Fermi对Segre说： “Emilio，
把你的所有论文和Dirac的一篇论文交换，我看你还是划得来的。”Segre虽然听了觉得不
爽，但是还是觉得老师没有说错，但是他回敬了一句：“那把你的所有论文和Einstein的
一篇论文交换，我看你也是划得来的。”Fermi想了一下，同意了。

按照Yang的说法，Fermi是20世纪唯一一个在理论物理和实验物理都取得大成就的物理学大
师，双脚着地。Fermi患癌症去世时才53岁，但是Yang去看望他时，他非常坦然，非常平静
。相比之下，同样原因而去世的von Nuemann却非常痛苦，因为他留恋生活。

再来侃侃Sommerfeld及其学派。Sommerfeld自身在原子物理方面有很大成就，他的学生中
Heisenberg和Pauli都是物理大师，都获得Nobel物理学奖，但是他没有，无疑，他是一个
非常成功的老师，因为他的学生超越了他，他因材施教，允许高中刚毕业的Pauli直接去自
己的研究生班讨论，他法眼如炬，让20刚出头的Pauli写相对论的综述，他谆谆教诲，让年
轻的Heisenberg大放异彩。他本人至少十几次被提名 Nobel物理学奖，但至死没有获奖。
他是成功的，他的突出成就加上学生个个是青年才俊，死而无憾了。Heisenberg说他在So
mmerfeld那里学物理，在Born那里学数学，在Bohr那里学哲学。真是博采众长了。但是Di
rac很明白地说自己在Bohr的哲学那里没有得到任何有益和有害的东西。

Heisenberg在很年轻的时候也当了导师，他的学生中Bloch是大牛一个，固体物理中的能带
理论就是Bloch于1928年得出的杰作。Pauli的得意门生Weisskopf成为著名的物理学家和物
理教育家，但是成就已经无法和乃师相提并论了。

在数学中，像Sommerfeld-Heisenberg-Bloch这样三代同牛的模式，数学中也有，比如Hod
ge本身是代数几何与分析学的大师，Hodge猜想是当今数学的大难题，Hodge结构是代数几
何的重要研究对象，Hodge分解定理影响波及微分几何等学科。他的学生是著名的 Atiyah
，Atiyah-Singer指标定理是震撼人心的大作，他本人获得Fields奖，Chern说，即使你不
搞这个方向，A-S定理也值得你去学习。Atiyah的学生中最著名的自然是那个superstar一
样出现的Donaldson，证明四维Euclidean空间具有不同于标准微分结构的微分结构，一夜
成名，轻松获得Fields奖。按照大师Weil的说法，拿Fields奖就像摸彩票，可是人家这一
摸不仅因为运气好，更因为功底扎实，他是应用Yang-Mills理论中关于“瞬子”的相关技
巧结合四维Poincare猜想的结果来得到这个巨大成就的。Hodge-Atiyah- Donaldson三代同
牛，与Sommerfeld-Heisenberg-Bloch抗衡。

有时候，明师和高徒之间也会产生龃龉。’t Hooft和Veltman因为对规范场论的重大贡献
一起获得1999年度的Nobel奖。上世纪60年代，他们一起研究规范场的可重正性，最后’t
Hooft终于成功了。但是后来他们闹翻了。不知道和QCD中关于渐进自由的事情有关。因为
’t Hooft显然已经先得出这个性质，但是Veltman似乎比较专断地拒绝让他在这个方向发
展，而是让他研究量子引力的课题。次年Gross, Politzer, Wilczek发表了这个结果，最
终众望所归得获得2005年度的Nobel奖。而’t Hooft则一举郁闷到现在。两个人后来闹翻
或许有这个因素在内。

从总的来说，一个名师的所有学生未必都成高徒。很大程度上还依赖于学生的资质和勤奋
。就像Chern，人们说他的高足是Yau，但是Yau的成功很大部分源自自己的天赋和努力，他
博士跟Chern读，只读一个多月，Chern就对他说：“你过去的成果就可以得博士了。”这
里出现的模式是“名师+高徒”而不是名师出高徒。

何积丰院士和他的盲妻

他是联合国大学国际软件技术研究所高级研究员，英国牛津大学客座教授，牛津大学计算实验室高级研究员，两度获最高科研奖——英国先进科技女皇奖。他被国际计算机科学界誉为面向模型软件开发方法的奠基人，他的学术成就被欧洲软件界权威人士赞之为软件设计技术上的一座里程碑。2005年他又当选为中国科学院院士。

他就是华东师范大学教授何积丰，在这些荣誉的背后，他还轻咏着一首爱之歌。25年前，他的妻子在一场事故中不幸失明，从此以后，他便成了妻子的眼睛……

丈夫负笈海外，妻子不幸失明

1980年对于何积丰来说，是值得他铭记一生的年份。这一年他被华东师范大学派到美国旧金山大学进修，这是他多年来的期盼。自从1960年5月，16岁的他免试进入复旦大学数学系学习以来，他就希望有朝一日能够到国外深造，去领略国外先进的科学技术。1965年毕业后，他被分配到华东师范大学工作，在学校领导的支持下，他成为上海高校中第一批从事计算机科学研究的人员。正当他想大展宏图之时，十年动乱开始了，他不得不放弃了正常的科研活动。然而，在他的心里，对科研的渴望更加强烈了。

“文革”结束，百废待兴。华东师范大学的科研队伍也在重整旗鼓，终于，何积丰以一贯认真的工作态度，赢得了学校的信任，被派往美国旧金山大学进修，专攻计算机应用。妻子张蕾蕾也为他高兴，虽然刚刚生下女儿，但她依然支持丈夫去国外深造，她知道这是丈夫的心愿。

在美国这个科技发达的国家，何积丰以异常的热情投入到学习和科研中去。课余时间里，他常常到远离旧金山的斯坦福大学和另一所名牌大学去旁听著名教授的讲课。每次，都得凌晨起床，步行一小时至长途汽车站。就这样，何积丰把别人用来给家人带“大件”的生活补贴都花在了美国的长途汽车票上。斯坦福大学的导师也被这位刻苦求学的来自于中国的年轻人打动了，不久，何积丰被批准进入该校学习。这样，何积丰开始了每天奔波于两校之间的求学生涯。

在紧张的学习科研中，每次读家书是他最快乐的时刻。几乎每个星期，妻子都会写一封长长的信，告诉他女儿的每一声啼哭、每一个微笑和学会的每一句话，以及自己工作生活中的点点滴滴。每个月，妻子都会把女儿最新的体重和身高报告给他，在那一点点变化的数字里，远在异国他乡的他感受到了女儿的成长和妻子对他的绵长的思念。

半年以后，一向准时而至的家书，突然中断了。何积丰着急地写信回去询问情况，终于，一个月后，他收到了回信。原来妻子张蕾蕾因骑自行车不小心右手骨折了，所以不能写信，这封信还是别人代写的。在信中，张蕾蕾安慰丈夫自己伤势很轻，不久就能恢复，不要为她担心。此时在知识的海洋里恣意漫游的何积丰，相信了妻子的话，又重新投入到学习科研中。

只是没有了家书的日子，让何积丰觉得有些不适应。每当月圆之际，他都会抬头仰望那一轮明月，虽然月亮的光芒几乎被闪烁的霓虹灯淹没，但在何积丰的心里，月亮是最美最温柔的，因为那里有妻子和女儿的目光。想必妻子此时也一定在想念着自己，只是调皮可爱的女儿肯定不能体会妈妈此时的思念。

就在为期一年的学习快要结束时，何积丰越来越不安起来，他总觉得妻子有什么事情瞒着他，不然都快半年了，一个小小的骨折怎么还没有恢复呢？终于等到了学成回国的时刻，坐在飞机上，他的心是激动而又惶恐的，激动的是自己终于回到了日夜思念的家，惶恐的是家里是否依旧平安。

何积丰走到了熟悉的家门口，他犹豫着按下了门铃。家门打开的一刹那，他看见的是衣衫不整而又憔悴的妻子，头发枯黄散乱，戴着一副墨镜，颧骨突起，衣服褶皱不堪，扣子还扣错了两粒。这哪里还是那个整洁美丽的妻子？何积丰哽咽着喊了一声：“蕾蕾！”张蕾蕾颤抖着走到何积丰的身边，双手沿着丈夫的头摸了下来，从眼睛、鼻子、嘴唇到肩膀、手臂再到双腿、双脚，泪水从墨镜下流了出来。她紧紧地抱住丈夫，嘴里呢喃着：“又见着你了……”

何积丰这才发现妻子的眼睛不对劲：“蕾蕾，你的眼睛怎么了？”

原来，何积丰到美国半年后，张蕾蕾这个不到30岁的中学女教师，在一起意外事故中受伤，一夜之间双目失明了！她没有告诉丈夫，因为她知道在国外学习一直是丈夫的梦想，她不想把丈夫从为理想而奋斗的快乐中拉回来，于是她编织了那个右手骨折的谎言。其实，在失明的这半年里，张蕾蕾曾无数次地想到了死，可每每想到丈夫，想到女儿，她又放弃了，她想不管以后如何，总要再见一面丈夫再说。于是，张蕾蕾在黑暗中等待着丈夫的回来。

“我就是你的眼睛”

何积丰的心碎了，他没想到自己不在的时候，妻子遭遇了如此的痛苦。为了让自己安心在美国学习，妻子竟隐瞒了事实，独自承受着这巨大的打击。何积丰又心痛又后悔，为妻子的眼睛而心痛，为自己轻信妻子的谎言而后悔！在妻子最艰难、最黑暗的时候，他本应该陪在妻子身边和她一起承受，可是自己却远在异国他乡，而且对此一无所知！

平静下来之后，何积丰决定带妻子看最好的医生，让她重见光明，同时还要给妻子更多的爱，抚平她心上的伤痕。

接下来的日子里，何积丰一边求医问药，一边安慰开导妻子，让妻子从灰暗的心理状态中走出来。可是何积丰越是关爱张蕾蕾，张蕾蕾就越是觉得难过。曾几何时，她是家里家外的一把手，既要照顾女儿又要做好学校里的工作。人们常常看见她上下班大步流星的样子，有时候还会小跑起来，很多人惊异于这个柔弱女性身上蕴藏的力量，工作上被评为先进，家里也打理得井井有条。而她所做的这一切就是为了让丈夫全身心地投入到学习和工作中去，不让丈夫因为家事而分心。可是，现在自己已经成了丈夫的累赘，这种痛苦甚至要甚于失明给她的打击。

见了丈夫的张蕾蕾觉得心愿已了，她做出了一个决定，向丈夫提出离婚。何积丰知道妻子是不想拖累自己，他动情地说：“感情上不可能，道义上不允许，我就是你的眼睛，我俩要永远在一起！”

从此以后，何积丰成了妻子的眼睛。春天，他带她出去踏青，告诉她燕儿归来，杨柳依依；夏天，他买来冰淇淋，带给她夏日的清凉和香甜；秋天，他带她走在落叶上，告诉她“落红不是无情物，化作春泥更护花”；冬天，他和她一起听雪落的声音，告诉她“冬天来了，春天还会远吗”。

意外的事故夺走了她的眼睛，却并没有夺去她的光明，因为丈夫就是她的眼睛，她的心里是一片光明！她决定要好好地活着，为了不离不弃的丈夫，为了可爱的女儿，为了上天对她的恩赐。

1984年底，何积丰又被公派到牛津大学从事计算机理论科研。当他接到这个通知时，他告诉妻子自己不想去了，因为在国外太苦了。张蕾蕾知道牛津大学是每个求学者心中的圣殿，丈夫怎能不想去呢，他只是不放心把自己留在国内啊！于是她跟丈夫约定，她好好地活着，每天按时吃药按时吃饭，条件是丈夫必须去英国留学。

何积丰带着复杂的心情来到了英国，他感激妻子对自己的理解，却又放心不下失明的妻子。到了牛津后，何积丰每个星期都要给妻子写一封信。而张蕾蕾也在家里学着写信，她想通过自己的手告诉丈夫自己一切都好。开始，她虽然每个字写的都对，但并不能写成完整的一行，常常是这一行跑到那一行，那一行又蹿到这一行，她练了很久还是不能避免这个问题。这时，她想起来小时候常常用尺子划横线，如果将尺子贴在稿纸上，贴着尺子写，不就可以写成直直的一行了吗？可是，因为她看不见每一行的距离，所以只是由原来的曲线变成了斜线，依然成不了直线。苦思冥想后，她终于想出了好办法，就是把纸折成一条一条的，每写完一行就展开一条。就这样，她一笔一画地摸索着给丈夫写信。有一次，圆珠笔油用完了，她都不知道，写了一上午结果一个字也没有留下。从此以后，她记下了一支圆珠笔能写多少封信，每当圆珠笔油快用完时，她就及时更换，否则又会做无用功。就这样，张蕾蕾终于能够用自己的笔和丈夫通信了。

为了更好地照顾妻子，何积丰到牛津后花费了很多的时间和精力，把张蕾蕾接到了英国。刚开始到英国的时候，张蕾蕾的生活无法自理，上厕所都要人帮忙，这给他本来就很紧张的科研工作，增添了不少困难。为了既能照顾妻子又不落下科研，何积丰每天起早做好一天的食品，然后带着妻子一起上实验室。他们吃得很简单，几乎每天的午餐都是三明治。在实验室里，何积丰忙于工作时，张蕾蕾就在一边听听音乐，学学英语，或者坐在那里静静地听丈夫的声音，“啪啪”是键盘的敲击声，“嘀嘀”是鼠标的点击声，“哒哒哒”是打印有规律的声音……她觉得这种声音才是世界上最动听的音乐，不管世界怎么变化，生活怎么改变，只要有这种声音相伴，就是最大的幸福了。

只要一有空闲，何积丰就会来到妻子身边和她聊天，告诉她自己取得的每一点进步和每一个大胆的设想。有时候，为了帮助妻子练习英语，他们就用英语聊天。渐渐地，张蕾蕾便能说一口流利的英语了。

早出晚归的何积丰和妻子惟一能共享的休闲时刻就是每个星期六的上午，何积丰都会陪妻子逛菜市场、超市，买来一周的生活用品。就这样，他们从春走到秋，又从秋走到春。尽管与别人相比，他能做的是那么有限，但这首浅吟低唱的爱之歌，自有其深深的情韵。渐渐地，张蕾蕾适应了牛津的生活，她决定要帮丈夫分忧。虽然自己的眼睛看不见了，但她相信自己一定还能够为丈夫营造一个温暖而轻松的港湾。因此，她不经常去实验室了，她要在家里学做家务。

她开始摸索着扫地、整理房间，刚开始的时候，她在房间里常常被撞得青一块紫一块的。有一次，她在打扫卧室时，一不小心撞倒了衣服架，自己也被撞倒在地，鼻子流血了。她赶紧爬起来，洗干净脸上的血，把衣服架扶正，还仔细地把地板擦了又擦，她是怕丈夫回来看见了血，会心疼她。可是晚上何积丰下班回来，还是发现了妻子衣服上的血迹，他明白妻子是为了给自己分忧，又在学做家务了，他很内疚，说：“蕾蕾，你别做家务了，我可以照顾好你的。”第二天，他要带妻子去实验室，可张蕾蕾怎么也不愿意，她说：“你去吧，今天我在家不做家务了，我就听听音乐、睡睡觉。”争执了半天，眼看着就要到上班的时间了，何积丰只好一个人走了。晚上回到家，何积丰发现房间里又被打扫得干干净净，连衣服都洗好了。

渐渐地，张蕾蕾学会了做所有的家务，整理房间、洗衣、做饭、熨衣服、织毛衣……她还学会了弹钢琴。张蕾蕾虽然失去了自己的眼睛，可丈夫成了她的眼睛，这双眼睛不仅给她带来了光明，还给她带来了一生的幸福和一世的爱恋。饥饿的人才知道食物的美味，失明的人才知道光明的可贵。失明的张蕾蕾倍加珍惜她的新眼睛，她要好好地爱他，呵护他，所以她要重新找回自信，要全力为丈夫分担，让他全心全意地投入到他所热爱的事业中去。

“你是最优秀的！”

1989年，何积丰因科研成绩突出获得了英国先进科技女皇奖，颁奖的时候，将举行一场盛宴。何积丰要带着妻子一起前往，但张蕾蕾却不愿意去。何积丰知道，妻子一方面是因为眼睛失明而自卑，另一方面是因为她不想让别人知道获奖者的妻子竟然是盲人。何积丰说：“蕾蕾，在我心里你是最美的，最优秀的，我要让人知道何积丰有一个多么棒的妻子！”

当何积丰挽着戴着墨镜的张蕾蕾走进会场的时候，人群立刻安静下来，人们注视着这对特殊的夫妇。何积丰自豪地向朋友们介绍：“这是我的妻子！”张蕾蕾也礼貌地用英语和朋友们交谈，人们丝毫感觉不到这是一位盲人，因为她的美丽、坚强和开朗闪闪发亮。当何积丰走上领奖台时，立刻爆发出雷鸣般的掌声，人们被这个中国人感动了！不仅仅是因为他做出的非凡成绩，还因为他执着的爱和勇气。“高山仰止，景行行止；虽不能至，心向往之。”在那一刻，全场的人都记住了这对中国夫妇。

此后，凡是重要的聚会，只要条件许可，何积丰都会拉着妻子的手一同参加，沿途给她说路上的“风景”。虽然看不见，但张蕾蕾还是可以清晰地感受到英格兰乡村一望无际的草原和农作物，尖顶、红瓦、白墙、黑色木梁柱的农舍错落点缀其间，牛马羊群怡然自得；各色的游人穿梭在古旧的街巷之间，自成一道风景。在观赏街头的风景时，他们也成了这里一道独特的风景。他们手牵着手或漫步街头或坐在车上，他说着，还不停地用手指着远方，她微笑着点头，似乎已经看见了他指着的前方的景色。

一晃在英国的15年过去了，在这期间，何积丰获得多项荣誉，电子工业部软件一等奖，上海市科技进步一等奖，两次获得英国先进科技女皇奖。每次得奖，何积丰都会对张蕾蕾说：“这里有你的一半！”张蕾蕾说：“事业有成是你最大的幸福，而你的幸福也就是我的幸福。”是的，如果说一开始是何积丰全力地照顾着妻子的话，那么在丈夫的鼓励下张蕾蕾恢复自信后，她又成了家里家外的一把手，让丈夫全心全意地投入到他热爱的科研和学习中去，他们正是在这种共同分享艰难和喜悦的生活中，体验到了人生的幸福。

1999年，他们“挥一挥衣袖”，告别了牛津，回到了华东师大——这个见证了他们的爱情和婚姻的地方。于是，在华东师大的菁菁校园里，人们经常看到何积丰搀扶着妻子漫步，两人相互依偎，喃喃低语。他们就这样互相搀扶着，从满头青丝走到了两鬓斑白。

2005年12月，何积丰当选为中国科学院院士，他和失明妻子的美丽爱情经媒体报道被众人得知。人们纷纷说，何院士既有大学问，又有好人品，是一个完美的人，此乃“真男人”。亲朋好友纷纷向他表示祝贺，他说：“其实，没有蕾蕾我什么也做不了。虽然她失明了，但是我更离不开她。我们家要是没有她，屋顶也要塌下来了。”而张蕾蕾说：“如果没有积丰给我鼓励，我哪来的生活勇气！”

在这个婚姻被称为爱情坟墓的时代里，何积丰夫妇没有海誓，没有山盟，有的只是互相鼓励，彼此体贴，便手牵着手走过了30年的婚姻历程。不久前，在结婚30周年的纪念日里，他们到影楼拍了全套的婚纱照。虽然张蕾蕾什么也看不见，但她的心里真切地感觉到了婚纱照的美丽，因为她的眼睛就在她身边。

谈到数学家，有位朋友提起了山东大学老校长潘承洞先生，问我是否了解。老实说，我对潘承洞先生是只闻其名，未见其人。但关于潘先生，倒不是完全没的可说，可以泄漏一个堪称中国数学界“罪大恶极”的秘密。

不过，这个“罪大恶极”的主角，并不是潘承洞先生，而是潘承洞先生的弟弟，潘承彪先生。

潘承彪先生与萨爹萨娘交情都不错，萨娘回北京的时候没有接收单位，还曾经想找他帮忙调到农业大学。萨上中学的时候吃饱了撑的去撞汽车，恰好萨爹又不在国内，潘承彪先生就急急忙忙赶来看望。那一次我印象十分深刻，因为潘先生每次来家都是很淡定的样子，这一回表情却十分紧张，一进门就握住萨娘的手，连声说 – 你可要挺住，你可要挺住啊！

萨当时神志清醒，看了不禁昏头，心想该挺住的是我啊，你拉俺娘干啥？

后来才明白潘先生是误会了，他来的时候已经是晚上，到数学所平房宿舍外面，恰好看到不知道谁烧掉的一些垃圾。潘先生心地善良，本来就为我家的事情担心，看到风中烧过的纸片乱飞，不禁疑云顿起，心想这孩子完了，完了。进了门您老先生倒看一眼啊，萨就在床上躺着呢，人家可好，一看萨娘两眼红肿（废话，孩子撞了，萨爹又不在家，一个人又急又忙，这不是正常的么？），马上就开始安慰家属了。。。

过后，潘先生颇不好意思。

数学界父子传承的不在少数，但兄弟都在这个领域做出出色成就的倒不是特别多，至少我所听说过的，也就是潘先生两兄弟了。这可能是数学这玩意儿太累脑子，对先天要求比较高，家里偶尔出一个干这个的还行，连续放卫星未免要求太高。

两位潘先生都在解析数论方面有着出色的成就，堪称双璧。这里顺便给一点“内幕”，大家都知道中国数学界即便是文革期间也在世界上占据相当高的地位，但如果人家问，你们中国数学到底是哪方面厉害呢？那很多中国人是不太说得清的，因为这是专业范畴。实际上，中国数学当时最厉害的，一个是数论，两位潘先生，陈景润，都是这方面的权威；一个是分支，杨乐，张广厚都是此领域的泰斗。有人问了，当时我国的科技遭到严重的破坏，怎么唯有数学一枝独秀呢？原因也简单，数学这东西不需要实验室，也不需要电子显微镜，有把计算尺加上个不凡的脑袋就能搞，在其他方面因为投入的限制万马齐喑之时，什么都缺就是不缺人才的中国，自然就在这方面闪耀出光芒来了。

不过，我要说的并非潘先生的成就，而是他在数学界一个“罪大恶极”的秘密，他干的这件事，相信到现在还有不少人记得，只不过找不着正主儿是谁。

潘先生温文尔雅的人，怎么会做出“罪大恶极”的事情来呢？

嘿嘿，这就是教育部的问题了。

教育部找了潘先生去出高考题。

中国的高考，习惯是找学科权威来出题的。实际上，我觉得这根本没有道理。因为学科权威的本领在专，在精，对于中学教育那就擀面杖吹火 -- 一窍不通。实证就是科学院数学所的孩子们没一个敢找自己老爹辅导数学的 – 我们都知道那肯定是越讲越糊涂。

但是，孩子都明白的道理，教育部它不明白！

于是，出高考题，它不找高中的模范教师来做，却找到了潘教授，当然高考出题是很多教授一起来的，潘教授只出了一道题 -- 也还好是只出了一道题。可以想象，刚跟一帮杠头PK完歌德巴赫猜想，忽然让他给小孩子们出题，不出乱子那才怪呢。

那一年，考数学的孩子们都嘬了牙花，有愁眉苦脸的，有咬牙切齿的，有目瞪口呆的，有满地找牙的 – 找了牙准备咬出题的一口。所有的这些学生，都是卡在了潘先生这道题上。这道题答对了的只有不到1%。

是太难么？

那倒不是，潘先生算是有自知之明的人，他知道不能拿微分方程折腾孩子们，自己知道不能出这么难的。那出什么好呢？他琢磨着越简单越好吧。

就出了一道特别简单的题。

那就是 – 请证明勾股定理。。。

对高中三年级的学生来说，这实在太简单了，就是因为太简单了，根本没有几个学生还记得这东西怎么证。勾股定理么，简直象地球是圆的那么自然么。但是。。。证明？这东西还要证明么？！

就是啊，你证明一下地球是圆的吧。。。

十年寒窗，苦苦的猜题，弄出来这样一道令人目瞪口呆的东西。下来以后，学生老师没有不骂的 – 这谁呀，出这种XX题。

那些天，潘先生就总是有些灰溜溜的，对议论高考的人很敏感，而且经常打喷嚏。见到萨爹，一个劲儿的嘱咐 – 人家要问，你可千万别说那道题是我出的阿。。。

估计他嘱咐了不少人，所以，至今还时而听到有人印象深刻的提起这道“罪大恶极”，坑了全国99%考生的怪题，却从来没听到谁说得清它的出处。

时隔二十年再揭这个谜底，潘先生应该不会反对了吧。相信当年的学生们也早就想开了 – 反正。。。大伙儿都挂了，又不是我一个。。。

实际上，潘先生出这道题，当然不是因为希望出的简单，而是他认为中学教育不能只注意题海和数学竞赛，而且应该在基础方面让学生打得更扎实一些，这是他和萨爹谈起这件事的时候讲的。
