先走在水平的跑步机上,速度是5公里/小时;然后逐步增加倾斜度,每3分钟加高5cm(如果你的跑步机不能调节倾斜度,也可以用每3分钟增加1.5公里/小时的速度来代替)。

Statistical Physics, Part 2 : Volume 9 (Pt 2)

http://www.ebooksclub.org/?module=showBook&id=31894

ISBN: 0750626364 | Title: Statistical Physics, Part 2 : Volume 9 (Pt 2) | Author: E M Lifshitz L P Pitaevskii | Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann

Rating: 5
Though Landau series is an indispensable part of any 'Physicist', this one is a gem in the aspect of comprehensibility and importance. Most books would discuss stat mech on a different footnote from thermodynamics, which is not the way, the subjects were developed. Landau Lifschitz give a deeper and most lucid insight into 'statistical thermodynamics' of any system which has gained its importance owing to intriguing facts in hot dense nuclear matter, standing on face.

This review is for Volume 9 of the Landau Course of Theoretical Physics.

The whole Course is clear and concise, so it makes sense for anyone who wants to do theoretical physics to go through all ten volumes.

We start off with normal Fermi liquids and gases, including a nice discussion of Zero Sound (which is distinguished from normal sound mostly by a slight increase in the sound velocity as one gets colder than a transition temperature, and by increased absorption of sound near the transition temperature). Then we learn about Green's functions in a Fermi system at T = 0 and Feynman diagram representations of them.

After that, we study Bose liquids and gases. That means the properties of superfluids, including quasi-particles (phonons and rotons) and quantized vortex filaments. And the book shows how to apply Green's functions to Bose liquids. There's an interesting section on the disintegration of quasi-particles. Next, we're introduced to Green's functions for T > 0, using the Matsubara operators to reduce the complexity of the diagrams.

And then we're ready to learn about superconductors. That means learning about Cooper pairing and superfluid Fermi gases, and learning how to apply Green's functions to them. And, not surprisingly, we learn the Ginzburg-Landau equations, so that we can determine the behavior of superconductors in magnetic fields in temperature ranges near the transition point.

There's also a chapter on electrons in the crystal lattice, including the de Hass-van Alphen effect (which refers to a metal's magnetic susceptibility oscillating as the strength of a strong magnetic field changes - due to the quantization of the energy levels of the electrons) and electron-phonon interactions. And there's a nice chapter on magnetism.

In the preface, the authors state "we must again stress that this book is part of a course of theoretical physics and in no way attempts to be a textbook of solid state theory." Are they kidding? This course is an excellent way to learn solid state physics.

no words can describe the richness and clarity of this book.the description of Maxwell's distribution, Gibbs formalism,etc...all with marvelous clarity and rigour. Everyone who wants to learn statistical Mechanics (under and graduates) MUST read this book.

Rating: 5
This book is a classic, especially in the sense it is somewhat old fashioned in its basic approaches when compared with newer books. For example it examines statistics and entropy from the ergodic as opposed to the ensemble approach. Information Theory and role of symmetry and symmetry breaking is not treated in detail. However I can't hold these omissions against the book since these developments happend mostly in the late 70s.
What Landau does here, and which in explicably very few Statistical Mechanics books do nowadays, is the full Gibbs Formalism. Not only is the Gibbs Formalism more compatible with Quantum Mechanics, it can also fits in beautifully with Ensemble Statistics and Inofrmation Theory. More over, it is at once clear Maxwell and Boltzmann statistics are only special cases of the Gibbs formalism, and can be easily shown in a few lines.

What Landau does, is to gave an elegant and cohesive view the trully fundamental features of Statistical Mechanics. Chapters 1-6 of this book alone displays a deeper level of understanding than whole books that have been written. If you are interested in Statistical Mechanics at all, this must be a centerpiece of your library.

This is the Volume 9 of the famous Course of Theoretical Physics by L. D. Landau and E. M. Lifshitz. All serious students of theoretical physics must possess the ten volumes of this excellente Course, which cover in detail and rigour practically all the branches of theoretical physics. The Volume 9 treats important specialized topics of modern statistical physics. These topics include the theory of quantum liquids(Fermi and Bose types), the theory of superfluidity, created by Landau to account for the phenomena ocurring in liquid helium at approximately 2 kelvin, the microscopic theory of superconductivity, the general method of Greenýs functions, so important to modern statistical physics, and some other topics, such as the quantum mechanics of a electron in a crystal lattice. The book still contains the general theory of electromagnetic and hydrodynamic fluctuations, treated in the spirit of the Greenýs functions. These topics are treated with rigour, efficiency and c! larity of language. For this reason, all readers with some aqquaintance with basic statistical physics can read and understand much of this book without major problems. Certainly there is not other book comparable with the Volume 9, a unique and valuable addition to the literature on modern statistical physics!

Three major strengths of this book: 1:Excellent diagrams- present key points in very memorable and manageable form. 2:Disease descriptions are crystal clear, so there's no chance of you getting confused between different diseases. 3:Right amount of emphasis on symptoms, tests and diagnosis, very handy when preparing for surgery rotation.

Overall very readable. Works both as an introductory text and a revision aid. Fills you in on stuff you might have missed in lectures. Once you get used to sifting around the short chapters, you will learn a great deal from it. Wide array of subjects covered with imaginative use of tables and box diagrams. Authors know which topics are more difficult to understand and they take care in explaining them effectively. For example, in the section on surgical infection where there is a lot of detail to take in. Authoritative instructions given in brief but helpful summaries at end of each chapter.

Its generally believed by some that Medicine is a vast and boring subject.....but this book proves atleast pathology is not .....This is the best book of pathology i have ever seen ....i have gone through 12 pathology books of my friends and finally selected this one......a must book for a casual minded medical student who is not the most serious studenyt of his medical school!!!!!!

Rating: 5
I have been using this book for 3 years. I open this great book whenever I want to "watch a movie" showing clear mechanisms of diseases! It's full of black-and-white illustrations and flow-charts which quickly stick in your mind. Believe me, it makes your life simple and easy! What are you waiting for? Go and buy it now!

".....it clearly shows the easiest path to the perplexed medical student, for better understanding of the basic mechanisms of pathology as well as the advanced. The various illustrations virtually pull the readers to the microscopic level of pathology....the root of disease itself. For those who seek simplicity in every aspect of learning, this book is a must-buy!"

I thought the book was thorough and complete when I took some quick glances through it b/c the pictures seemed helpful and easy to understand...just to be mislead into buying it. I've read many great books for med school (robbins, path secrets, BRS, pathophys for B&W) but this by far gives the most worthless cluttered info for diseases possible. It is completely impossible to learn or summarize key concepts with this book....NOT recommended for review for boards, but it is worth reading if you are bored...ahaha

I appreciate the promptness with which your company sends its products out, and I also appreciate that they remain in the new condition on arrival to me. Thank You. One drawback I have seen to your site is that when you end up being late sending an item there are times when you back the date up for several more weeks, which when your a student you need these books to arrive as soon as possible to keep up with reading assignments.

This is an excellent pathophysiology book available in the market. I am right now preparing for my step 2 but I wish I would have used this book for my step 1. I have a decent score on my step 1 and I have taken the exam recently and I think if somebody masters this book they can rock the exam. This book gives excellent information regarding many diseases. I am trying to study this book right now with CMDT, which is also by the same author. Because CMDT is a very concise text book of IM it doesn't explain all the pathophysiology for a disease but this book has all the answers about the pathophysiology of a disease. And I think its a worth buying book for all the medical students, if you study this book little by little during preclinical years it will help you very much understand the IM in the clinical years. I was surprize to find some infornation which I was craving for since few years of my med school. You will even find pathophysilogy of very rare syndromes, as for example I was amazed when I read about X linked Hypophosphatemic rickets. If you are like me who wants to have explanation behind everything, get this book today, you wan't be disappointed.

Rating: 2
I found the book vague and unclear. It was recommended as a "reference" book for a graduate level pathophysiology course and it was the first book I returned. There are several other books on pathophysiology that are on the market for about the same price or a bit more that are MUCH more thorough and useful for undergraduate, graduate or medical student reference. I would NOT recommend this book for anyone looking at any type of indepth medical information.

Hi there first of all I would like to say that I am from Brazil, Recife, Pernambuco. I went to a university called UPE, FESP which is in the north east part of Brazil. I bought this book because I thought that it would complement BRS pathologyý
But it really didnýt so as I thought that it would;
I mean it does but its like discussing too much one some points so its just not really a good book for the USMLE step1 prep; I was actually led to think that because of something I had read on the first aid book that said that ý
Really did not like the book at all for the usmle prep. Although you can see that itýs a very well made book and they put their hearts into making it but itýs just not good enough for the boards.
Itýs not serving me any good I barely opened it since I bought it and I got their latest edition it was sort of a waste of money for meý I think that this book might be of value for the students at UCSF that are taking classes on introduction to medicine or something like thatý
But for the usmle? Forget itý!!!
Itýs really confusing, and there are no simple index for a particular disease, meaning If you look for something in specific it will be related with some many things that you wont see it right there; there wonýt be simple diseases listed there for you to look at like thatý
Every time I go look for something its not there or itýs in contest with something else makes you loose so much time looking at it to find itý Itýs a very good book but not to be used as a complement to BRS pathology unless youýre taking the class.
Hope that this was of help to some of youý

I began using this book when I started my pathology course along with Basic Pathology by Cotran. In the first chapter alone, there were 3 obvious errors on cell injury and adaptation. The author is a resident in Orthopedics. What gives him credentials to publish a book about pathology? Just be cautious when using books not written by experts in the subject matter. I threw the book away rather than sell or give it away.

Rating: 5
This is a great starting point for studying for Step1 of boards. The question/answer format is good for relating academic information to what you are likely to be asked.
This also has a good clinical spin to it. A good way to relate what you've been learning the first 2 years to what's coming up.

Probably a good adjunct to Robbins as well.

Anatomy Recall

http://www.ebooksclub.org/?module=showBook&id=31821

ISBN: 0683304364 | Title: Anatomy Recall | Author: Jared Antevil | Publisher: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0683304364.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Rating: 5
This is a situation that most medical students will recognise. You've been humiliated by a surgeon in theatre and you desperately need to brush up on the anatomy of the wrist but you're tired, you're hungry, it's late and you just can't face trawling through a big anatomy text book to find the tiny pieces of information that your consultant will appreciate. Anatomy Recall is the answer to their prayers. Crammed into this relatively slim book is just about all the material that you'd expect to find in a standard anatomy tome. The difference here is that the information is provided in edible chunks. The entire book is laid out in a question and answer format, dramatically increasing the fact:word ratio and boosting your ability to recall it when quizzed. Diagrams are only included where absolutely necessary (brachial plexus etc) and contents, indexes and other `wasted' pages are cut to a minimum. This means that the book is small enough to fit into a white-coat pocket. However, there are probably more important things to occupy the bulging pockets of medical students and this book will stay on the shelf by day. Even so, the small size and bite-size nature of the text means that this book is perfect for reading on the bus, over breakfast or anywhere else that you can snatch a few moments. At the end of each chapter is a `power review' section providing the most salient and memorable points for when time is really short. There is even a handy bookmark provided to allow you to cover the question answers for self-testing. The authors claim that Anatomy Recall and a good anatomy atlas are all a preclinical student would need to learn anatomy. Having been there, I tend to disagree and feel that the only way to get a solid grounding in anatomy is by studying a respected textbook such as Snell's Clinical Anatomy for Medical Students. Anatomy Recall is useful for brushing up on anatomy knowledge once the foundations are in place but the edifice above is crumbling and decayed. This is a book that, in my opinion, no medical student can do without.

Rating: 5
this book which is part of the immensley popular recall series focuses on active aquisition of knowledge as opposed to passive learning which is readily forgotten. With a topic as vast as anatomy, which is heavy on factual knowledge this text focuses in on key areas and delivers the must know facts clearly and simply. There are power review sections at the end of each chapter to help reinforce the most salient aspects of the anatomy and these really do aid with memorization of anatomy. It is not a replacement for a comprehensive text but with the aid of an atlas it is a fantastic method of maximizing your knowledge with minimum effort or as the series editor puts it high- yield information at your fingertips. buy it and get to grips with this immensley satisfying yet difficult topic.

I'm currently a student, and when my professor showed me this book I was hooked. It's great for it's simplicity. I can pay 10 bucks for a huge chart that shows me every single muscle in the body all at once. But I need more than that. I need every single muscle's origin, action, insertion and innervations. So I rushed home to order a copy of this book. Knowing that it'll be a great help with my studies!

Rating: 3
Atlas of Skeletal muscles is a basic book on anatomy which clearly illustrates each of the skeletal muscles in line drawing form. Bones to which the muscles attach are highlighted so you can clearly see point of origin and insertion. Small text section beneath or beside each illustration demonstrates Origin, Insertion, Action and connecting nerve.
It's spiral binding allows the book to lay flat when needed for ease of study. A basic, beginner book for students of anatomy, and one which I would reccomend. It was a textbook of mine in Massage Therapy school.

Rating: 5
I have used this book constantly since I bought it for my human anatomy dissection lab a few years ago. The clarity it provides by giving each muscle its own illustration is unparalleled. The summary pages are excellent as well. I recommend this to my fellow yoga teachers and students, and use it frequently in the classes I teach.

Rating: 1
200 pages of One muscle drawing per page in black and white only, with text: muscle origin, insertion, action & nerve relationships. Looks like a home made book.

Great little reference book. I am a FNP, and this is exactly the lecture I had wished I had on chest x-rays boiled to one simple readable book. Good for anyone just learning about them, and enough info to make you competant. Anything past this, ask a radiologist.

Rating: 5
This little book starts off by actually teaching you HOW to read a CXR. Not many books do that ... they just assume that you can. Then it goes into the four broad categories of abnormalities: 1) too white, 2) too black, 3) too large and 4) in the wrong place which helps you to categorise abnormalities. Then all the major conditions (e.g. pneumonia, COPD, malignancies etc.) are reviewed under each category. Read this before you start you clinical years and keep it in your coat pocket along with 'The ECG made easy'. Look at heaps of CXRs and ECGs from the beginning of the year along with the help of these books. Practice makes perfect! Good luck! I wish someone had told me these things at the beginning of the year! ;)

This book teaches the basics such as pneumonia, pneumothorax, and other abnormal thoracic conditions through the use of x-rays. It explains the abnormal findings of each x-ray in a clear and easily understandable manner. Best book I've seen so far on chest x-rays.

Rating: 5
I love this book. It first teaches the reader how to look at a chest x-ray in a simple, step-by-step approach. Then it is organized quite effectively into chapters based on the appearance of the x-ray (white lung field, widened mediastinum, etc.). A must read for medical students starting their rotations.

I first just relied on the classnotes to try to pass my medical histology exams. I learned the hard way by falling the midterm. I then used this book and of course it helped me immensely. I also used (ISBN # 0971999686) Histology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers. This study guide helped me to prepare for the final and the kind of questions to look out for. I got an A on my final with the aid of these two books. Both well worth the money.

Rating: 5
I'm a med student and used this book to help me with my medical microbiology class. The pictures are clear and helped me to get a mental picture of histology, in this way, it was easier to remember the facts for the test. However, I also used the following:
Histology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
The second book focused on the kind of questions that were asked on my medical histology exams. In this way, it better prepared me for the type of questions to look out for. Both books are highly recommended.

The authors have experience conducting clinical trials in the pharmaceutical industry and this shows in their approach. All the issues that arise in an NDA submission to the FDA are covered. In the introduction the authors describe the regulatory process and the role of the FDA. They even provide organizational charts for the FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. I have been working as a senior biostatistician for medical device companies for the last 5 years. Most of the trials I have worked on were regulated by the FDA and a number of issues that have been important to the FDA include (1) multiple comparisons, (2) intention-to-treat versus per protocol analysis, (3) pooling centers, (4) baseline data and demographics, (5) data monitoring and (6) safety. They are all covered in chapters 11 and 12 of this book.
Chapter 10 emphasizes sample size determination and interim analyses are covered in chapter 9. Randomization and blinding are covered in chapter 4. These topics are emphasized because of their importance in regulated clinical trials. One does not find them covered very much in other statistics texts on survival analysis or clinical trials.

The mathematics level is intermediate. The authors write well and incorporate the important practical interplay between the statistician, the clinician and the physician.

They provide many good references. The book is a good reference for anyone interested in clinical trials. Points are illustrated through the use of real trials.

Recent advances in Bayesian methods, resampling and meta analysis are not covered but most important topics are covered including group sequential methods.

This text tries to be both a text and an atlas in one and is unfortunately good at neither one. The text is very very basic and lacking in detail. The sections are poorly stained, out of focus and do not clearly demonstrate the structures. The pictures are small and of poor quality. Considering the price, I would recommend spending the extra 30-40 bucks and buy Gartner and Hiatt for an atlas and Junquera for a text instead of paying for this text.

Rating: 2
This book is good but not for beginers or medical students. it's complicated and packed with information, that might not be so important for students.
doesn't have any clinical correlations. i'd suggest the Basic histology book:text and atlas, rather than this one

Rating: 5
I am a medical student and found this textbook very helpful because it was well-organized and full of important information. It's very thorough and complete with great pictures. Also, this book will always serve as a great reference in years to come. My study group and I also used the following which is also on amazon:
Histology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi (isbn: 0971999686) The questions in the second book were of similar type to the tests in our medical histology class. In fact, we were recommended the second book from our friends at another med school and they found it quite helpful. It goes to show they were right, we all got A's and B's by using these two books.

Great reference for histology reviews. An invaluable tool for a pathologist.

Rating: 5
This book is the most extensive single source of urologic information available. It covers all basic aspects of urology in a fairly complete manner. The main drawbacks are:
1)Reference authors quoted directly in text. This makes the book fairly diffcult to read in a fluid manner and adds extra length to the already lengthy text. Gillenwater is a much more readble text.
2)Some chapters need a better overall framework. The best example of this is the chapter on adrenal pathology which does not provide a very good thorough to the asymptomatic adrenal mass, by far the most common adrenal problem.
3)Often excessive discussion regarding all the studies for and against an issue. I feel that it would be better to state that an issue is unresolved and then list some appropriate ways of attacking the problem.
4)Certain chapters are written in the 1st person. The chapter on the technique of radical retropubic prostatectomy is a personal account and not a reference chapter. MAny innovations from other centers are missing making this chapter somewhat biased.
Overall an excellent and authoratative view or urology

Rating: 5
If you need to know urology, then you need this set of book. This edition is set up very well. The 4 books make it easier to look up info. It covers all the major topics in urology and is as up to date as any book can be.

Rating: 5
This is indeed the best urological textbook, or better to call it the bible of urology , I can not wait for the next edition

Rating: 5
This is a thourough urology review, meanwhile contains contraversial aspects in your front.

Rating: 5
Medicine is obviously a rapidly evolving field and most medical texts receive a periodic retooling. All revisions should be as thorough and meaningful as the Seventh edition of Campbell's. The text has been sucessfully expanded where appropriate and each section further honed. Figures are elegant, pertinent, and well rendered. The references are all encompassing and as current as one can expect in a volume such as this. If there are any hesitations about updating from the sixth edition (which was also a vast improvement from the fifth) I hope to assuage them, encourage the reader and congratulate the authors.

Vilayanur S. Ramachandran is the director of the Center for Brain and Cognition. He is also a professor of psychology and neuroscience, at the University of California, San Diego. In addition, he is a professor of biology at the Salk Institute. He has a medical degree from the Stanley Medical College, and a Ph.D. from Trinity College, Cambridge. He is a scientific advisor to the Beckley Foundation, a drug policy and research initiative.

Amazon Review:
The two main themes in this short but important book are that
1. by studying neurological syndromes, we acquire novel insights into the functions of the normal brain;
2. the functions of the brain are best understood from an evolutionary vantage point.

V. Ramachandran's examples illustrate profusely that there is no separate 'mind stuff' and 'physical stuff' in the universe. The two are one and the same. Mind is a matter of matter.
There is also an indisputable link between neurology and psychology: psychic illnesses have organic causes.
The author sees the brain as a model-making machine: virtual reality simulations, models of other people's mind.

The Darwinian aspect is always present. As T. Dobzhansky said (quoted in this book): 'Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution.'
Natural selection has ensured that the subjective sensation of willing is delayed deliberately to coincide not with the onset of the brain command, but with the actual execution of the command.
The hierarchical 'tree' structure of syntax in language may be evolved from tool use. Language itself is not a specific adaptation which evolved for the sole purpose of communication.
The 'booba/kiki' effect shows that there is a pre-existing non-arbitrary translation between the visual appearance of an object and the auditory representation. Lips are physically mimicking the visual appearance of what one is saying and together with tongue movements produce 'proto-words'.

This short book with an excellent glossary is very rich. Ramachandran explains further the seeing process, why we blush, that laughter is a false alarm, why emotion overrides reason, what are the characteristics of the self, how he sees the problem of free will, how artists (Picasso, Moore) discovered the figural primitives of our perceptual grammar ('Less is more').
He stresses rightly the all importance of neurology because 'colonialism, imperialism and war originate also in the brain.'

In a few lectures Ramachandran gives the reader an insight in his bold and essential work. His magisterial main book 'Phantoms in the brain' is a must read.

Amazon Review:
To come to this review, you are obviously interested in either the work that Stephen Hawking does or are interested in Stephen Hawking the man. As such you are already somewhat familiar with the theories of General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics and understand the physical handicap that afflicts the body of this great mind. The "Complete Works Of Stephen Hawking", The Cambridge Unabridged Edition, consists of seven lectures on four audio tapes read by the author himself using a voice synthesizer machine which must be used to overcome the limitations that ALS has put upon his speech. It is ironic that this great mind is sinking within the event horizon of a communication black hole due to the disease. Despite this fact, Stephen is able to deliver a masterful presentation of his life's work in astrophysics, cosmology, and astronomy. His presentation is personal as well as informative and is peppered throughout with philosophy, academic humor, and personal insights. It does take some time to get used to the sound of his synthesized voice. Often it sounds robotic, alien, staccato, and certain phrases have a haunting Gregorian chant rhythm to them. I noticed that in a "Brief History Of Time", the words of the text are read by the famous British radio talk personality Michael Jackson. This is definitely a work that needs to be played over and over again stopping to study it along the way. I first listened to it on my 1 hour 1 way car trips to work but plan to listen to it again this summer under the stars at the campgrounds near the glow of an open fire. The tape consists of the following seven lectures (1) Ideas About the History of the Universe, (2) The Big Bang, (3) Black Holes , (4) Quantum Mechanics, (5) Origin of the Universe, (6) The Past and the Future, and (7) The Unified Theory . Now techies that should really wet your whistle! The tapes are a great value at the price. If you are a student of the subjects covered, have a philosophical interest in finding where science and God meet face to face, or just want to enjoy the triumph of human spirit over adversity, then these tapes are a must hear for you. In summary, I believe that after experiencing these tapes you'll come to the same conclusion that I made that Stephen Hawking is an example of how the glory of God and His majestic works can be made manifest in the form of one of His weakest vessels.

Bill Clinton - My Life
e-book | pdf | english | Knopf | 2004 | 883 pages | 6.95 MB

An exhaustive, soul-searching memoir, Bill Clinton's My Life is a refreshingly candid look at the former president as a son, brother, teacher, father, husband, and public figure. Clinton painstakingly outlines the history behind his greatest successes and failures, including his dedication to educational and economic reform, his war against a vast right-wing operation determined to destroy him, and the morally indefensible acts for which he was nearly impeached. My Life is autobiography as therapy - a personal history written by a man trying to face and banish his private demons.
