美國《世界日報》向中國在海外的學生進行調查，顯示他們同居率高達80%，而且趨向年輕化。
專家分析放洋學生從白天短暫的歡聲笑語，到夜晚漫長的孤枕難眠；五彩繽紛的異國生活，無法掩飾現實生活的無奈、空虛、寂寞，成為許多海外留學生最常用詞彙，很多在迷茫與困惑中走入同居時代。
小瑛(化名)剛來英國時非常不適應，遇到最大困難非學習壓力，也不是吃飯穿衣，而是孤獨感。主因是沒有親友、沒有人交流，經常憋在自己的房間裡幾天都不出門，甚至一周說不了10句話，只能躲在被窩兒裡哭。後來，小瑛認識現在的男朋友海濤(化名)，剛認識對方就像從身上看到自己孤獨影子，感覺很親切，不久兩個20出頭的年輕人住在一起。
小瑛還說，她的同學逾一半同居，因大家覺得自己是大人，兩人在一起起碼有個伴兒，相互照應，也不那麼孤獨了。
另一位女兒在德國慕尼黑留學的張女士說，當知道女兒與人同居，既生氣又擔心，憂慮女孩子孤身在外，萬一上當受騙怎麼辦？吃虧可是一輩子的事啊，當家長的能不操心嗎？母女為此鬧得不快，但母親也沒辦法，因女兒離得遠了，也管不了，只能由她去吧。
英國東亞文化研究所負責人弗里克教授稱，近年到英國求學的部分中國留學生年齡偏小，自控能力差。男孩女孩同居，晚上打電腦、看影碟，白天不起床。還有很多同居後不再認真讀書，完全放在感情上，以致同居在英國的留學生中，不少中途輟學回國的例子。

第55回， 凤姐跟平儿说“你知道，我这几年生了多少省俭的法子，一家子大约也没个不背地里恨我的。我如今也是骑上老虎了。虽然看破些，无奈一时也难宽放；二则家里出去的多，进来 的少。凡百大小事仍是照着老祖宗手里的规矩，却一年进的产业又不及先时。多省俭了，外人又笑话，老太太、太太也受委屈，家下人也抱怨刻薄；若不趁早儿料理 省俭之计，再几年就都赔尽了。”应证第53回荣府过节缺钱， 凤姐用老太太的铜器典当押钱的事情。到了第62回，连林妹妹都说出“要这样才好，咱们家里也太花费了。我虽不管事，心里每常闲了，替你们一算计，出的多进的少，如今若不省俭，必致后手不接。”
可是每个月花费到底多少呢？我们看看光大观园里的支出， 在探春改革前。每个小姐月钱2两，共计8两， 胭脂花粉的另外采买估计也有8两,总计16两。 李纨的月钱10两，有儿子的2两补助（实际上10两，还有8两点心钱），总计20两。宝玉也是 10两。这些正经主子加起来就是每个月46两。 然后是丫头的， 袭人的是王夫人的私房钱里开工资， 所以除掉她，7个大丫头7000钱， 8个小丫头4000钱，总共每个月1万1千钱（因为时价不同 1两银子可以折算1000-1200钱不等），就估算为10两银子。 4个小姐们的大丫头算2个，小丫头4个，总共是14两银子。也就是主子和丫头共计70两。 这里还不包括老妈子的， 就算和丫头们薪资支出一致总计大观园的开销每个月94两。 就算探春改革后， 每个月人头上支出也要70两。一年总计这个园子里的人工费840两。就算探春改革成功，每年收益400两， 还是要有440两的支出。这还只是日常开支， 不算过年节， 可是要发红包双薪的。从凤姐典当首饰来估算过个年节一次没有400两银子是打不住的。可是农庄上的收成不过2000-3000的收益。 大观园里面就要840， 还不包括贾母，两房里的开销， 就算简单乘3 ， 也就是刚刚日常持平，过完年节，应酬之后就亏空了。除了薪资， 贾府里的人看病可是公费全额包销， 吃穿用度也是贾府的， 所以第60回通过五儿说出来：“虽如此说，我却性急等不得了。趁如今挑上来了，一则给我妈争口气，也不枉养我一场；二则添了月钱，家里又从容些；三则我的心开一开，只怕这病就好了。－－便是请大夫吃药，也省了家里的钱。”可见贾府中的薪资福利都是很好的，也是一个小丫头一年就能挣6两银子， 吃穿也不用家里的， 等于帮一个小康人家的1/3的一年的开销了，要是一家三口在贾府工作， 那么生活直奔小康，而且如果在油水足的地方，那就发了。也难怪， 贾府连年亏空。

一直没有搞清楚， 宝玉身边的大小丫环有多少， 知觉上可要比他的姐妹们的丫头多得多， 宝姐姐的最少（因为她们家上京， 还有个原因， 是她们家已经今不如昔了，所以大丫头也就莺儿一个），湘云也不多她的助手也就是翠缕（可爱的一对儿），林妹妹和迎探春一样，一个大丫头（相当于麝月晴雯的一个级别），然后几个小丫头， 用王夫人在74回都说也就通共每人只有两三个丫头象个人样，余者纵有四五个小丫头子，竟是庙里的小鬼。宝玉的丫头按第36回王夫人和凤姐的对话（王夫人道：“这就是了。你宝兄弟也并没有一两的丫头，袭人还算是老太太房里的人。”凤姐笑道：“袭人原是老太太的人，不过给了宝兄弟使。他这一两银子还在 老太太的丫头分例上领。如今说因为袭人是宝玉的人，裁了这一两银子，断然使不得。若说再添一个人给老太太，这个还可以裁他的。若不裁他的，须得环兄弟屋里 也添上一个才公道均匀了。就是晴雯麝月等七个大丫头，每月人各月钱一吊，佳蕙等八个小丫头，每月人各月钱五百，还是老太太的话，别人如何恼得气得呢。”） 也就是说宝玉身边除掉袭人这个一两银子的一等大丫头，还有7个每个月1吊钱的大丫头,这里我数了数常常出来的麝月晴雯秋纹绮霰碧痕（连上被赶走的茜雪，还有调走的小红，小红我也拿不准他的月钱是多少，按照年岁，是算不到小丫头的，从后面芳官跟五儿在六十回里说的，还有两个缺没有人顶上， 一个红玉的，一个坠儿的，）还差这么一个人， 不过从小红给宝玉倒茶的时候可以看出（那丫头听说，便冷笑了一声道： “认不得的也多，岂只我一个。从来我又不递茶递水，拿东拿西，眼见的事一点儿不作，那里认得呢。”）就算大小丫头有16个， 真正能够被上司宝玉看到你干活儿只有这么几个，按书里说就是得脸的活儿，俗话说，见面三份情，这样别人才能记得住你， 才会有赏赐轮到你。
前面我说我不喜欢晴雯， 不过在宝玉屋里面，我还有更不喜欢的。因为晴雯至少还是算有一技之长的，针线上面无人能敌， 有才的人难免心高气傲， 一般的小活计交给他们做，他们会觉得杀鸡焉用牛刀，所以往往推三阻四， 所以才会看不起其它也有才的人，这是人性的弱点。 我更不喜欢的就是秋纹和碧痕两只狐狸， 别人说袭人狡猾， 可是比起这两人，真的是差远了。 同样针线活儿， 你要交给晴雯， 她最多一句话告诉你不做。 不过换作那两个人可是塞给别人做得了，自己邀功 （具体证据看26回见一个未留头的小丫头子走进来，手里拿着些花样子并两张纸，说道：“这是两个样子，叫你描出来呢。”说着向红玉掷下，回身就跑了。红玉向外问道：“倒是谁的？也等不得说完就跑，谁蒸下馒头等着你，怕冷了不成！”那小丫头在窗外只说得一声：“是绮大姐姐的。”抬起脚来 具斯具擞 跑了。红玉便赌气把那样子掷在一边，向抽屉内找笔，找了半天都是秃了的，因说道：“前儿一枝新笔，放在那里了？怎么一时想不起来。”一面说着，一面出神，想了一会方笑道：“是了，前儿晚上莺儿拿了去了。”） ，而且不是一次两次的事情，而是经常。越是无能的人，对于下面有才干的人在自己的上司的面前的出现才会更加的紧张， 你看在24回， 小红好容易给宝玉倒了茶，要报告一下有客人来过，被秋纹，碧痕看见，是如何的呢？（二人便都诧异，将水放下，忙进房来东瞧西望，并没个别人，只有宝玉，便心中大不自在。只得预备下洗澡之物，待宝玉脱了衣裳，二人便带上门出来，走到那边房内便找小红，问他方才在屋里说什么。小红道：“我何曾在屋里的？只因我的手帕子不见了，往后头找手帕子去。不想二爷要茶吃，叫姐姐们一个没有， 是我进去了，才倒了茶，姐姐们便来了。”秋纹听了，兜脸啐了一口，骂道：“没脸的下流东西！正经叫你去催水去，你说有事故，倒叫我们去，你可等着做这个巧 宗儿。一里一里的，这不上来了。难道我们倒跟不上你了？你也拿镜子照照，配递茶递水不配！”碧痕道：“明儿我说给他们，凡要茶要水送东送西的事，咱们都别动，只叫他去便是了。”秋纹道：“这么说，不如我们散了，单让他在这屋里呢。”）这两个可是等宝玉不在的时候发作， 要是换了晴雯这个傻丫头，一定当场教训小红了，这是他们的聪明处， 当场骂，万一宝玉看上了， 这以后按照小红的能力肯定在自己的上面， 这下子难看， 所以背后教训。果然宝玉虽然记住了小红这个人，没有问名字， 不了了之。
这两只狐狸除了打压下级卓有成效， 对付自己的平级可也有一套， 挑拨离间的本事可比谁都大。 虽然在前文中晴雯总是言语上得罪袭人，可是两个人面子上还是可以的，袭人也不见得真的想要拿晴雯怎么样。不过到了37回， 袭人已经内定为屋里人之后， 我想晴雯是吃醋的， 不过没有发出来， 可是经过秋纹的挑拨， 可是等于向袭人挑衅了， 我们看看（回头见晴雯、秋纹、麝月等都在一处做针黹，袭人问道：“这一个缠丝白玛瑙碟子那去了？”众人见问，都你看我我看你，都想不起来。半日，晴雯笑道：“给三姑 娘送荔枝去的，还没送来呢。”袭人道：“家常送东西的家伙也多，巴巴的拿这个去。”晴雯道：“我何尝不也这样说。他说这个碟子配上鲜荔枝才好看。我 送去，三姑娘见了也说好看，叫连碟子放着，就没带来。你再瞧，那槅子尽上头的一对联珠瓶还没收来呢。”秋纹笑道：“提起瓶来，我又想起笑话。我们宝二爷说 声孝心一动，也孝敬到二十分。因那日见园里桂花，折了两枝，原是自己要插瓶的，忽然想起来说，这是自己园里的才开的新鲜花，不敢自己先顽，巴巴的把那一对 瓶拿下来，亲自灌水插好了，叫个人拿着，亲自送一瓶进老太太，又进一瓶与太太。谁知他孝心一动，连跟的人都得了福了。可巧那日是我拿去的。老太太见了这 样，喜的无可无不可，见人就说：‘到底是宝玉孝顺我，连一枝花儿也想的到。别人还只抱怨我疼他。’你们知道，老太太素日不大同我说话的，有些不入他老人家 的眼的。那日竟叫人拿几百钱给我，说我可怜见的，生的单柔。这可是再想不到的福气。几百钱是小事，难得这个脸面。及至到了太太那里，太太正和二奶奶、赵姨 奶奶、周姨奶奶好些人翻箱子，找太太当日年轻的颜色衣裳，不知给那一个。一见了，连衣裳也不找了，且看花儿。又有二奶奶在旁边凑趣儿，夸宝玉又是怎么孝 敬，又是怎样知好歹，有的没的说了两车话。当着众人，太太自为又增了光，堵了众人的嘴。太太越发喜欢了，现成的衣裳就赏了我两件。衣裳也是小事，年年横竖 也得，却不象这个彩头。”晴雯笑道：“呸！没见世面的小蹄子！那是把好的给了人，挑剩下的才给你，你还充有脸呢。”秋纹道：“凭他给谁剩的，到底是太太的 恩典。”晴雯道：“要是我，我就不要。若是给别人剩下的给我，也罢了。一样这屋里的人，难道谁又比谁高贵些？把好的给他，剩下的才给我，我宁可不要，冲撞 了太太，我也不受这口软气。”秋纹忙问：“给这屋里谁的？我因为前儿病了几天，家去了，不知是给谁的。好姐姐，你告诉我知道知道。”晴雯道：“我告诉了 你，难道你这会退还太太去不成？”秋纹笑道：“胡说。我白听了喜欢喜欢。那怕给这屋里的狗剩下的，我只领太太的恩典，也不犯管别的事。”众人听了都笑道： “骂的巧，可不是给了那西洋花点子哈巴儿了。”袭人笑道：“你们这起烂了嘴的！得了空就拿我取笑打牙儿。一个个不知怎么死呢。”秋纹笑道：“原来姐姐得 了，我实在不知道。我陪个不是罢。”袭人笑道：“少轻狂罢。你们谁取了碟子来是正经。”麝 月道：“那瓶得空儿也该收来了。老太太屋里还罢了，太太屋里人多手杂。别人还可以，赵姨奶奶一夥的人见是这屋里的东西，又该使黑心弄坏了才罢。太太也不大 管这些，不如早些收来正经。”晴雯听说，便掷下针黹道：“这话倒是，等我取去。”秋纹道：“还是我取去罢，你取你的碟子去。”晴雯笑道：“我偏取一遭儿 去。是巧宗儿你们都得了，难道不许我得一遭儿？”麝月笑道：“通共秋丫头得了一遭儿衣裳，那里今儿又巧，你也遇见找衣裳不成。”晴雯冷笑道：“虽然碰不见 衣裳，或者太太看见我勤谨，一个月也把太太的公费里分出二两银子来给我，也定不得。”说着，又笑道：“你们别和我装神弄鬼的，什么事我不知道。”一面说， 一面往外跑了。秋纹也同他出来，自去探春那里取了碟子来。），这之后，我想袭人是不舒服的，不管怎么说，自己之前的等级上就是高一级，可是晴雯一直不服气， 那也算了，都是丫头， 可使自己被提拔作为后备干部， 晴雯还是不服气， 这以后怎么办？ 这里面有意思的是，秋纹不可能不知道谁得了衣服，却故意挑起话题， 让晴雯言语上直接得罪袭人， 间接等于挑衅王夫人（那个时代， 主子给赏赐你不接， 能有什么好果子， 更何况，晴雯自己也知道王夫人不喜欢她，所以轻易不去王夫人的屋子里， 这一刺激， 自己倒去拿东西，可不是王夫人知道有这么一个自己不喜欢的人在宝玉屋子里头么？晴雯这个傻孩子，连麝月给自己台阶下， 也不接，执意去了。她可是有火气就要发的，输了钱回来看见宝玉和麝月篦头，都要说，搞不好路上看见哪个小丫头就教训了， 结果在74回王夫人果然在王善保家的提示下想起来了，上次我们跟了老太太进园逛去，有一个水蛇腰，削肩膀，眉眼又有些像你林妹妹的，正在那里骂小丫头。我的心里很看不上那狂样子，因同老太太走，我不曾说得。后来要问是谁，又偏忘了。今日对了坎儿，这丫头想必就是他了。）有人的地方就有江湖， 虽然同一屋檐下，可到底个人有个人的打算， 晴雯就这么被自己的同事给孤立了，没有团体的结果是什么？自然是早早的出局。
写到这里， 只想说， 这个时代出去打工，你要是像晴雯一样， 那么最好找个小公司，上司有实权， 用你的才， 同事中狐狸少，这样才能长久。 要是进大公司， 结果很可能不是你炒东家，就是东家炒你， 几年下来， 在行业内虽然大家认为你有才能，可是你没有积累，只能是越混越差。

以前有读者问我，“猫猫啊，你感觉自己最像红楼梦里的谁啊？”
“当然是红玉啊。”
我喜欢红玉这个名字， 因为总是能让人想到两个真实的历史人物， 红拂和梁红玉。她们有着过人的眼光（大部分男人不如， 能够洞悉人性的弱点和世事的变迁）， 她们有着自身的清晰地认识（能够应时而为），还有着坚强的意志。 如果没有这些， 怎么会夜奔成功，怎么能够击鼓退兵？不知道是不是巧合， 还是有意为之， 曹先生给了小红本来的名字是红玉， 暗示着小红的本质如玉一样， 只不过被外面的石头盖着，一定要遇时而显。
从书中的描述来看红玉和麝月的相貌都是很普通的在大观园这个美女如云的地方，只能用清丽爽利来描述。 她们在怡红院的时候， 相较于其她的女子， 都是容易被遗忘的。关于麝月的描述， 可以查到的只有5，6次。 第一次， 是宝玉给她篦头，结果晴雯打牌输钱回来看见出言， 那时候麝月不过隐含了（说到这里， 我又要说晴雯小家子气， 宝玉不是你老公， 麝月不过是你同事， 何必把自己的不如意发泄在别人身上）， 第二次， 晴雯撕扇子， 夺了麝月的扇子撕， 麝月说她糟踏东西（想想有趣， 如果撕得是秋纹碧痕的，那就热闹了，不过这里是麝月， 她不过说了句在理的话， 古人相信惜福， 晴雯这样子有心糟蹋东西， 按因果来看， 果然福薄的很）。 第3次， 是芳官因为洗头的事情和她干娘闹， 袭人因为言辞上不擅长， 晴雯平时话多可到了关键的时候，居然只能跳脚, 还是麝月言简意赅的出来3句话把那干娘给压下去了（第一句，分析地位和管理权， 第二句，说事情， 第三句，说后果）, 我要是老板我也喜欢这样拎得清的助理，难怪后来有人说陪宝玉到最后的丫头是她。第4次，是袭人不在， 晴雯不肯干活儿， 还要吓唬麝月结果弄出病来。后来晴雯自己心虚，怀疑麝月和平儿背后说自己坏话（其实人家不过说的是坠儿偷窃的事情， 这件事情上， 我觉得晴雯的心地一般）， 第5次， 抽花签，她也是有花语的。不过有些没有出场的事情上，我们可以同样看出麝月的为人， 小丫头们说分赏钱， 提出袭人拿钱她们服气，可是说到不服气的时候，只有晴雯秋纹的名字， 没有麝月。 小红两次被骂， 前有秋纹碧痕， 后有晴雯秋纹，可是就是没有麝月。晴雯嫉妒袭人涨工资说赏钱， 大家“玩笑”说袭人是哈巴狗儿，可是就是没有麝月。可见麝月为人本分厚道， 人际关系好。她不多说话， 不是因为不会说， 而是知道什么时候说，什么时候不说， 不给人尴尬， 不与人为难。
红玉也是会说话的， 一样的条理清楚， 所以遇到了凤姐姐，凤姐一见就把她纳入自己的麾下。我喜欢红玉的一个理由就是她的见识， 第一个在最热闹繁华的时候说出“千里搭宴棚，没有不散的宴席”的是她。 虽说当时她是受了职业生涯的挫折， 可是这时候表现出的是很冷静地思考， 所以当凤姐要求她转职的时候， 她很有礼有节的表达出自己愿意追随凤姐使自己的职业生涯有前途的意愿。 红玉出场在前80回一共也不过4次， 一次是给宝玉倒茶那回， 前有给贾芸说不要白等， 后有给宝玉倒茶， 之后是和小丫头说话被宝姐姐听到（这一回中， 表现出红玉对人性的透彻认识， 所以才会有宝姐姐听到不打紧， 要是林姑娘听到就麻烦了， 因为林妹妹的说话不经大脑，这点在宝玉生日的时候， 桂花油的笑话上表现出来了）。 第二次， 替凤姐传话，之后成功转职（同一天， 她的善言辞同样表现在对待秋纹和晴雯的无理指责上）。 第三次， 是大家去道观， 凤姐姐随身的人员中就有小红， 虽然只有一句话，却也表现出小红在凤姐管理团队中的地位。第4次， 是贾琏包二奶事发。 小红婉转让袭人不要进屋。 据说， 在后文中，有小红和贾芸报恩的文字。 我是相信的， 因为小红的智慧和能力， 结果一定是先在贾府裁员的时候脱离奴籍和贾芸成亲， 作为自由人， 然后报答凤姐的。
如果我是老板， 遇到这种员工， 为什么不重用呢？顺便在这里， 再次感叹凤姐姐好眼光， 好运气。

我是很不喜欢晴雯的，之前就不喜欢， 这几天我的小店开张了， 就更加的不喜欢了。 站在老板的角度， 我讨厌缺乏自己职业定位的员工，特别是草创阶段， 等到做大了， 能看不见最好， 看到了， 估计我会和王夫人一样，把这样子的员工早早的扫地出门。我先来分析一下， 晴雯这个二等助理秘书的行为和她的职业不相符合的地方。第一， 作为常务秘书， 晴雯的主要工作就是替上级整理好文件及用具。 你也许说了， 她很认真啊， 生病的时候， 还替上级加班干活。 对不起， 我这里要说了， 你只看到了这一次， 其他时候呢？从后文袭人说， 平时我要你做个活儿， 你推三阻四的，怎么我不在的时候， 你病的半死不活的， 倒是做了？ 这说明了一个问题， 就是晴雯平时的工作， 不服从直接上级袭人的分配。等到直接上级不在的时候， 却过分的炫耀。虽然在后文中她辩白自己总以为大家在一处了， 不过这话听着不像打工的，倒好像是国有企业大锅饭的样子，可惜， 贾家虽然不轻易开人， 不过还是家族企业。第二， 作为常务秘书， 而不是常务秘书长， 她总有越级行为。 最典型的两次，一次是袭人不在，她把丫头坠儿给撵出去了。虽然坠儿应该被开除，不过这个轮不到她管，有处分权的是袭人和宝玉。 虽然袭人不在， 不过至少她也应该在宝玉在的时候， 让宝玉这个领导发话， 或者宝玉在场的时候自己发话（你看，以前麝月教训芳官干妈的时候， 不就是在袭人的许可之下， 以老太太的名义教训人么）。一次是小红被凤姐差遣， 被晴雯教训说小红偷懒。 结果是被小红很清楚明白的顶回去了，理由很清楚，以来人家这天的工作已经完成不当班， 二来，人家也是为领导服务了，三来，这个小红没有说出来， 人家很快要跳槽了。这两件事情的结果， 可以看出晴雯在怡红院这个部门，直接领导袭人是不喜欢她的（谁会喜欢一个处处挑衅自己权威的下属？），下面的基层小秘书们也是不喜欢她的（都是打工的， 一样拿工钱， 总是被无理骂， 所以小丫头们宁愿服气袭人，恶人都被晴雯当了）。第三， 作为常务秘书， 晴雯把间接的上级（除了宝玉）都给得罪了， 而且得罪的时候，自己都不知道。 这里我就不拿王夫人说了， 用书里的话，王夫人一向不喜欢晴雯这种类型的， 她有偏见。我就说说其他人，第一个是林妹妹， 大家还记得林妹妹吃了闭门羹的事情么？那次是晴雯耍脾气， 不开门。害的林妹妹误会了宝哥哥。后来这两个人误会澄清之后， 林妹妹嘴上说是丫头淘气， 不过以林妹妹的聪明， 不会不知道那个丫头是谁。 第二个， 是宝姐姐， 同样是那一天， 晴雯说了句， 还要不要别人睡了。 虽说后文中小红说，宝姐姐是个大度的人， 不过得罪了就是得罪了。第三个，李纨珠大奶奶，还是晴雯生病的那次， 按照贾府的规矩，有家的，都要回家休养， 李纨正好管事儿派人说让晴雯回家， 晴雯说了句气话， 难保不会有人添油加醋的传回去。第4个（群）， 管事儿奶奶们，晴雯说林之孝家的吃了酒排揎他们（首先林之孝那天查夜就算吃了酒， 你也不能说， 何况人家也是好意，只不过耽误你们几分钟玩儿，你就这么说， 有点过分）。第5个， 平儿姑娘， 人家好心过来替你们遮掩掉偷窃的事情， 特地嘱咐过几天等事情大家忘了再做了断， 晴雯倒好当天炒人，这么做等于让平儿在凤姐面前难做。晴雯的人际关系 ，我们可以发现除了宝玉这个上司，其他人不会帮她， 可是这个上司实在没有实权。第四， 虽然说书里面， 晴雯和上司宝玉很清白。 不过我总觉得他们这样的关系比起袭人和宝玉的关系更加要不得，更加危险。 你看晴雯被宝玉宠的要撕扇子就撕扇子，要顶撞就顶撞，一天到晚纠着领导的小辫子（我就奇怪， 宝玉难道有被虐倾向， 被晴雯顶的除了生气，就不会发脾气， 茜雪可是因为给李奶奶喝了宝玉留的茶就被开除了， 可是晴雯呢？虽然闹了几次， 可是也没有见宝玉真的有动作，难怪别人疑心他们有什么， 因为没有什么就这么样子，有了什么， 那不是更加作上天了）。第五， 晴雯对自己的职业生涯没有规划。 这点她死前有所领悟， 不过也没有对上路子， 她以为学了袭人和宝玉有关系了就不会出去，可是大错特错。你看李纨说的， 贾珠在的时候也有几个跟前人， 不过后来呢？ 不都给打发了。除非运气特别好，好像赵一娘有了孩子，要不她的脾气，迟早还是被炒鱿鱼。我在前面说过， 晴雯死在自己的嘴上。 所以说，话多不是口齿伶俐，说的是时候， 对了路子， 才是会说话。 这点我比较欣赏下面要说两个，那就是麝月和小红。

第49回，湘云跟宝琴说“到了太太屋里，若太太在屋里，只管和太太说笑，多坐一回无妨；若太太不在屋里，你别进去，那屋里人多心坏，都是要害咱们的。”以前看这句话总是莫名其妙， 太太屋里，太太不在的时候，除了那些丫头， 也就没有别人了。怎么说是坏人多呢？又怎么跑出来害人这回事儿呢。后来等我把书前前后后看了几遍。 才大概算是明白了点儿。 我们构架一下太太屋里的人力结构。 太太当然是最高领导，下面是4个一等大丫头彩霞，彩云， 金钏儿和玉钏儿（湘云说那上面的话儿的时候，金钏儿造就没有了）。 有人的地方就有江湖， 金钏儿和玉钏儿是亲姊妹， 自然是团结一心， 彩霞彩云我一直没有搞明白，不过从文中看出是和赵姨娘，贾环一党（开始为了彩霞， 贾环拥蜡油毁宝玉的容， 贾环和彩云有关系是太太屋里人人皆知的秘密， 彩云为了讨好贾环偷东西）。 两边都不是王夫人十足的心腹， 虽然在38回，说到各房的大丫头的时候提到彩霞说她老实，不过探春却说“可不是，外头老实，心里有数儿。太太是那么佛爷似的，事情上不留心，他都知道。凡百一应事都是他提着太太行。连老爷在家出外去的一应大小事，他都知道。太太忘了，他背地里告诉太太。”不过她又和贾环赵姨娘要好， 整个就是双面间谍， 想来王夫人也是明白， 所以到了72回，说她大了放出去。
一开始，双方的势力还是旗鼓相当的，我怀疑是不是王夫人刻意的造成这种平衡， 不过金钏儿在第三十回因为自己的多嘴， 被宣布炒鱿鱼。 这件事情上名义上是王夫人说她教坏主子，很多人认为是她和宝玉调情造成的，实际上， 我更加倾向于是因为她建议宝玉去捉贾环和彩云。贾环和彩云的关系在王夫人的屋子里头是人人皆知却不能说的秘密， 金钏儿的原意恐怕是要宝玉去捉了他们，好自己这边的势力占上风，王夫人怎么能让你这么摆布？首先这种风化的事情是不能污染到自己的继承人的，其次这种事情闹大了对谁有好处？对王夫人等于说她教导无方， 对宝玉来说是长兄无能不能当兄弟的表率， 闹出来， 王夫人的助手少了一个。所以王夫人一个耳光下去了，宣布炒鱿鱼。 这之后， 作为补偿， 玉钏儿一个人拿了双薪，不过也肯定的是不可能成为王夫人的心腹，当地有芥蒂。
这之后估计是王夫人不能不倚重暗里投靠赵姨娘的彩霞彩云。 所以彩云在盗窃案事发之后，才敢不承认甚至于诬告玉钏儿。 不过61回之后， 彩云和贾环因为这事情掰了，彩霞和贾环是到第72回之后， 贾环根本不介意和自己要好过的丫头， 在他的心里，不过是丫头而已， 用过了算得。
从这些文字里面，我们得出三个结论：1， 上司要搞平衡， 你就不要破坏，破坏的前提就是你能够顺利上位或者跳槽的下家准备好了。2 同事搞你， 你要做好鱼死网破的准备，闹大了，前提是你所在的公司不会轻易炒人。3如果你有心脚踏二船， 那一定要做好落水的准备。
现在这个世道， 好人寥寥， 毕竟躲不开，那么就要自己做好准备。

猫说红楼22----- 糊涂的香菱

香菱姑娘是个苦孩子， 本来出生在小康之家，父母老来得女，很是宝贝的。可是被拍了花子。 好不容易有机会遇到了冯渊（这个标准的同性恋居然为了香菱决定改了自己的性取向），结果被薛大傻子抢回去做了屋里人。第7回， 周瑞家的看到她，说她的样貌有几分好像可卿， 说明她很漂亮， 然后问她家乡父母， 她不知道，周瑞家的还替她难过。 再往后，香菱出场就是在薛大傻子被柳湘莲打了， 她哭得厉害。 薛大傻子为了躲羞出门去学做生意， 宝钗带她进园子， 她学作诗， 狠下功夫。每每看到这里，我就在心里说，“聪明面孔笨肚肠”， 我倒不是说香菱姑娘的智商的问题， 而是说她的人情世故。我一直相信性格决定命运， 宝姐姐带她进园子，薛姨妈同意的基础是宝姐姐可以多个帮手， 可不是要她去学作诗的， 在那个女子无才便是德，以及贤妻美妾的年代， 香菱姑娘的地位决定她认识几个字， 可以做好它屋里人的本职工作就是她职业人生的成功的道理， 这个姑娘竟然不明白， 估计宝姐姐平时教她的那些她都没有听， 比方宝姐姐要她去老太太， 太太等各处问安，这是做客人的本分和规矩， 不过也说明一直到夏金桂进门， 香菱姑娘在薛家可没有吃过苦。 薛姨妈是个好婆婆， 宝姐姐是个不刁钻的小姑子，薛大傻子在这之前估计对香菱没有动过粗， 薛家的底下人也不多， 不如荣宁二府分割三六九等。 如果香菱姑娘有点危机意识， 把学诗的劲头放到学习生意经， 或者帮着婆婆薛姨妈管家的事情上，虽然红楼梦的时间表混乱， 不过按照过节也至少有个3年， 3年下来， 成了薛家不可少的管家姨娘， 夏金桂真要想动她，也不是这么容易， 大不了， 换人家， 重新谋生也容易。写到这里， 就想到我姐姐以前看我在人情世故上不通就教训我的话，“都是把你宠的， 要是如今有长三堂子， 把你送过去， 好好学两年，也就吃不了这么多亏了。”（我姐姐说的这话，是气话， 不过也有道理， 如果香菱被卖到青楼， 被老鸨那样调教， 估计也就不会被折磨致死了）。不过香菱姑娘一心要做文学女青年这种超越了她本职工作的事业，浪费了大把的时间（想到电视剧里， 香菱被折磨致死的时候，蜡烛毁了她最爱的诗集， 不过我倒是想到， 分明是这诗集误了香菱，用宝姐姐劝林妹妹的话，这些到底不是她们的本分）， 当宝玉替她担心的时候，这个糊涂姑娘居然还要冲宝玉不开心， 妻妾和睦那是双方不得不对生活妥协的假象， 一方有了强势， 一定要把对方驱逐的， 我就奇怪了，难道尤二姐的事情， 香菱姑娘就没有一点触动， 连袭人也知道去未来可能的顶头上司林妹妹那里探口风， 香菱姑娘却没有危机意识， 也只能说明她糊涂到家了， 所以最后被夏金桂打入死地，那可是没话说了。我总是说女人吃醋是自然的，一个女人如果大方到主动给自己的丈夫纳妾， 那就是不正常（要么是要依靠自己的老公，没办法， 要么就是不爱自己的老公，有人缠了他最好，自己可以有时间想自己的事情）。
有人问我香菱在册子上的诗“自从两地生孤木，致使香魂返故乡”怎么解， 我想这是拆字法， 前半句含了桂字（也就是夏金桂的出现， 造成香菱的死亡）。

This book will be helpful to people in various categories. Firstly, those wondering whether a career as sceintific researcher would suit them and what it would entail, secondly those charged with providing suitable career advice and, thirdly, existing researchers needing assistance or reassurance in connection with their work and prospects. As a result, I can see this book in many libraries, including high school and university libraries.
On the other hand, given the rapid nature of change in funding (and this book considers only the USA) and research practices, it would be wrong to imagine that it would be able to provide up to date and accurate information on every issue with which a researcher is likely to be concerned. It should be seen as a general guide rather than a specific one. It will be useful for my students here in Thailand since the career of researcher is not so well documented or even developed here and many aspire to study and work in western countries without much idea of what it would entail.

Well, what can I say. It took a lot of deliberation before I decided to buy this book. I did get a recommendation from a colleague, but after reading some of the reviews, I was not so sure. Much of what the authors say is not just common sense, but almost trivial. I think the topic is also too general, trying to cover everything from a postdoc looking for a job, to an associate professor trying to get promoted to a full professor level.

What was particularly disappointing was the extremely abbreviated section on the process of getting a job. Granted that every university varies, but negotiating a position with good (access to) resources and support, good students and enough time to do research is probably the most critical stage of the whole process. Everything else is a direct result of this process. Yet disproportionately little time is spent on this subject. It is as if the authors assume everyone gets a job in one of the top ten universities, but at the same time they are still too confused about how to publish a paper, write/get a grant or interact with colleagues (junior and senior).

Focusing on NIH R01 as the only source of funding (granted this is intended for biomedical researchers), is also misguided. There are alternatives that researchers can explore, but many of them do not give as generous indirect costs as NIH or simply are smaller than your average NIH grant. So from your institution's point of view these grants do not really help you to get tenure, so maybe that is why the authors left them out.

Over all, this book really is not that helpful unless you are a complete beginner in this game. And then it is probably too early for you to worry about getting your R01 in Research Utopia U. I can think of better things to spend $40 on.

Finally, a book full of advice on the art of being an academic scientist! As a postdoc, I have already benefited from many of the sections, including the advice on grant writing, giving talks, and writing manuscripts. Also, the section on mentoring has helped me to be more efficient in directing the undergraduates working with me. I am sure I will consult this book many times in the future as I begin my job search and start my own lab. The book was fun to read as well as very practical. Definitely recommended.

I was generous with just one star. In the real world of the stressful biomedical grant mill (Emory University being one such mill), this book will prove profoundly ineffective. And for several reasons. First, it is poorly conceived and written. Second, to my knowledge, Eckert has never been funded for a biomedical grant (in other words, her expertise is wishful thinking). Presently, she holds a staff position at the Emory School of Nursing.
