Language: English
ISBN-10: 080141203X

Bernhard Wunderlich

Vol. 2. Crystal nucleation, Growth, Annealing
Vol. 3. Crystal melting•

4. The Physics of Polymers (460 pages),by Gert R. Strobl
Publisher: Springer; 2 edition (August 15, 2006)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 3540632034 ISBN-13: 978-3540632030
From the reviews: Polymer Physics is one of the key lectures not only in
polymer science but also in materials science. Strobl presents in his
textbook the elements of polymer physics to the necessary extent in a very
didactical way. His main focus lays on the concepts of polymer physics, not
on theoretical aspects or mere physical methods. He has written the book in
a personal style evaluating the concepts he is dealing with. Every student
in polymer and materials science will be happy to have it on his shelf. From
the reviews:
"Physicists wanting to learn about the fundamentals of polymers would find
the book very interesting and informative." IEEE Electrical Insulation
Magazine

5. Polymer Physics, by M. Rubinstein, R. H. Colby (512 pages)
Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA (February 1, 2003)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0198520603
This is a polymer physics textbook for upper level undergrad duates and
first year graduate students. Any student with a working knowledge of
calculus, physics and chemistry should be able to read this book. The
essential tools of the polymer physical chemist or engineer are derived in
this book
without skipping any steps. The book is a self contained treatise that could
also serve as a useful reference for scientists and engineers working woth
polymers. While no prior knowledge of polymers is assumed, the book goes far
beyond introductory polymer textx in the scope of what is covered. The
fundamental concepts required to fully understand polymer melts, solutions
and gels in terms of both static structure and dynamics are explained in
detail. Problems at the end of each chapter provide the reader with the
opportunity to apply what has been learned to practice.
The book is divided into four parts. After an introduction in Chapter 1,
where the necessary concepts from a first cours on polymers are summarized,
the conformations of single polymer chains are treated in Part 1. Part 2
deals with the thermodynamics of polymer solutions and melts, including the
conformations of chains in those states. Part 3 applies the concepts of Part
2 to the formation and properties of polymer networks. Finally, Part 4
explains the essential aspects of how polymers move in both melt and
solution states. In all cases, attention is restricted to concepts that are
firmly entrenched in the field.

6. Viscoelastic Properties of Polymers (672 pages) 作者John D. Ferry
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons; 3 edition (September 1980)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0471048941
ISBN-13: 978-0471048947
Viscoelastic behavior reflects the combined viscous and elastic responses,
under mechanical stress, of materials which are intermediate between liquids
and solids in character. Polymers—the basic materials of the rubber and
plastic industries and important to the textile, petroleum, automobile,
paper, and pharmaceutical industries as well—exhibit viscoelasticity to a
pronounced degree. Their viscoelastic properties determine the mechanical
performance of the final products of these industries, and also the success
of processing methods at intermediate stages of production. Viscoelastic
Properties of Polymers examines, in detail, the effects of the many
variables on which the basic viscoelastic properties depend. These include
temperature, pressure, and time; polymer chemical composition, molecular
weight and weight distribution, branching and crystallinity; dilution with
solvents or plasticizers; and mixture with other materials to form composite
systems. With guidance by molecular theory, the dependence of viscoelastic
properties on these variables can be simplified by introducing certain
ancillary concepts such as the fractional free volume, the monomeric
friction coefficient, and the spacing between entanglement loci, to provide
a qualitative understanding and in many cases a quantitative prediction of
how to achieve desired results. The phenomenological theory of
viscoelasticity—which permits interrelation of the results of different
types of experiments—is presented first, with many useful approximation
procedures for calculations given. A wide variety of experimental methods is
then described, with critical evaluation of their applicability to
polymeric materials of different consistencies and in different regions of
the time scale (or, for oscillating deformations, the frequency scale). A
review of the present state of molecular theory follows, so that
viscoelasticity can be related to the motions of flexible polymer molecules
and their entanglements and network junctions. The dependence of viscoestic
properties on temperature and pressure, and its descriptions using reduced
variables, are discussed in detail. Several chapters are then devoted to the
dependence of viscoelastic properties on chemical composition, molecular
weight, presence of diluents, and other features, for several characteristic
classes of polymer materials. Finally, a few examples are given to
illustrate the many potential applications of these principles to practical
problems in the processing and use of rubbers, plastics, and fibers, and in
the control of vibration and noise. The third edition has been brought up to
date to reflect the important developments, in a decade of exceptionally
active research, which have led to a wider use of polymers, and a wider
recognition of the importance and range of application of viscoelastic
properties. Additional data have been incorporated, and the books chapters
on dilute solutions, theory of undiluted polymers, plateau and terminal
zones, cross-linked polymers, and concentrated solutions have been
extensively rewritten to take into account new theories and new experimental
results. Technical managers and research workers in the wide range of
industries in which polymers play an important role will find that the book
provides basic information for practical applications, and graduate students
in chemistry and engineering will find, in its illustrations with real data
and real numbers, an accessible introduction to the principles of
viscoelasticity.

7. Polymeric Liquids & Networks,作者Willi Graessley
Publisher: Taylor & Francis; 1 edition (November 20, 2003)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0815341695
This book reviews accomplishments of the polymer science community in the
past five decades, including those by the author, in the area of static
properties of polymeric liquids and networks. The author is highly regarded
for his life-long achievements of research in polymer science... This book
reminds us of the rich accomplishments in the fundamental science on
polymers.

8. The Theory of Polymer Dynamics, by M. Doi, S. F. Edwards (402 pages)

Language: English
ISBN-10: 0198520336 ISBN-13: 978-0198520337
'This book is destined to join the classics of polymer science...an
essential purchase for any serious student of polymer dynamics.' British
Polymer Journal 'collects together for the first time the most important
theories of polymer dynamics...The book is to be recommended to all serious
students of this very interesting and industrially important subject.'
Physics in Technology

BTW: P J Flory

Principles of Polymerization
